Google Chrome's new tab page makes it fast and easy to access our favorite websites and the idea has been implemented in other web browsers as well. Unfortunately, Google Chrome doesn't have much to offer when it comes to customizing the new tab page, especially with its latest updates. This is where FVD Speed Dial comes in. If you wish to customize your new tab page however you want and make it more comfortable, then you should definitely try this browser extension. Creating website shortcuts manually, making them permanent or arranging them by clicking and dragging are just a fraction of what it has to offer.

FVD Speed Dial can be installed in just a few seconds, like any browser extension, on Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. It doesn't ask for any supplementary tools and it won't affect your browsing speed. Also, the extension is absolutely free for both web browsers.

Once installed, FVD Speed Dial will automatically change your web browser's new tab page and it will also add a new Home button on its user interface. The changed new tab page displays a series of pre-defined tiles, to help you get started. To create a new website shortcut, it is sufficient to click a blank dial and type in the site's URL on a separate window. Additionally, you can decide to use a different image on the dial, place it in a group or edit its title. It is also possible to preview the website, on the same window and enable and disable plugins or the JavaScript for the website.

Dials can be moved and swapped by clicking and dragging, just like in older Google Chrome versions. Their positions will remain unchanged, regardless of which websites you visit and how often. Rather than restricting you to a fixed number of website shortcuts, FVD Speed Dial allows you to create as may as you want. You can display them in a list or as thumbnails and place them on one or more columns. Another clear advantage is the fact that you can group your dials on separate tabs.

A series of options can be displayed on a small panel, in the upper right corner of the new tab page, for displaying the most visited or recently closed websites. A synchronization option can be found on the same panel. If you connect FVD Speed Dial to a Google account or others, you will be able to make your personal bookmarks and other elements available on any computer, with only one click. Furthermore, if privacy is a concern, you can hide and lock all your dials instantly and reveal them again by typing a password, directly on the new tab page.

FVD Speed Dial's flexible customization options are also worth mentioning. You can set a different dial size, apply different background themes or load images from local folders and much more. Also, in Google Chrome, the extension allows you to access installed apps on the same new tab page, like in previous Chrome versions. Additionally, you can install and display various widgets in the same place.

Pros

You may create your own website shortcuts, make them permanent and move them by clicking and dragging. Also, you can group your dials on separate tabs. The extension comes with a vast range of customization options.

Cons

The Google Chrome version looks and feels a bit better than the Firefox one, but the differences are not many, especially in terms of functionality. With FVD Speed Dial, you can access your favorite websites at a moment's notice and make your web browser more comfortable and convenient at the same time.
